Nepali Congress convention: Nominations begin for various posts
As many as 4,743 will vote to elect a new leadership for the next four years.Post Report
The nominations for various office bearers’ posts of Nepali Congress began in Kathmandu on Saturday.
The grand old party is holding its 14th general convention after repeated delays.
The deadline for filing nominations is until 5pm Saturday, according to Jagannath Shrestha, a member of the Central Elections Committee of the party.
Voting is expected to take place on Monday only, as Sunday has been allotted for reviewing nominations and withdrawing candidacies.
Kalyan Gurung has filed his candidacy for the post of party president.
Other party president hopefuls like the incumbent Sher Bahadur Deuba, Bimalendra Nidhi, Shekhar Koirala and Prakash Man Singh, however, are still struggling to form their panels.
Shekhar and Singh represent the Ram Chandra Poudel.
Late on Friday evening, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, who leads his own camp in the party, decided to support Deuba in exchange for one general secretary and one joint general secretary for Pradip Poudel and Umakanta Chaudhary. That makes it even more difficult for Deuba as there are too many aspirants for those posts from his camp.
As many as 4,743 delegates will vote to elect a new leadership for the next four years.
