The landscape of highway travel in Nepal has been transformed with the opening of thee GO e-stop in Kurintar on Saturday. This is the second addition to Nepal's sustainable rest stops network. Participants of the event described the inauguration of the facility as a milestone in Nepal’s journey towards sustainable transportation.
The e-stop offers the nation’s largest privately owned EV charging station facility, the organisers said. The first e-stop has been operating in Ramtar, Mulkot, for the past year.
The launch event held in Kurintar was attended by Kulman Ghising, managing director of Nepal Electricity Authority, among other dignitaries that include industry leaders, foreign partners, and sustainability advocates. Ghising’s presence underscored the initiative’s strategic importance in promoting electric vehicle (EV) adoption and supporting Nepal’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions, said the organisers.
In his inaugural address, Ghising underscored the role of the thee GO e-stop in advancing sustainable infrastructure in Nepal’s transportation sector. “Establishing thee GO e-stop is a significant stride towards a greener and more sustainable future. By promoting the use of electric vehicles, we are not only reducing our carbon footprint but also paving the way for energy independence and cleaner air,” he stated.
The thee GO e-Stop in Kurintar provides a range of services tailored to the needs of modern travellers. Its EV charging stations ensure that electric vehicles are well looked after. The facility also has a restaurant serving meals, and accessible public restrooms—all designed to enhance traveler comfort and convenience.
Rajan Rayamajhi, chairman of the GO group of companies, expressed his gratitude to the guests and partners who made the project possible. “Today marks the beginning of a new era in highway travel in Nepal. The thee GO e-Stop is more than just a pit stop; it’s a vision realised. We are dedicated to setting a new standard for travel convenience while actively contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions.”
During the event, the participants also discussed the future of sustainable travel in Nepal. With the successful launch of the Kurintar facility, the thee GO e-stop is set to expand its network across Nepal, reinforcing its mission to provide comprehensive, eco-friendly travel solutions, the organisers said.
