Four Nepalis among 25 killed in Goa nightclub fire

At least four Nepalis were among the 25 people killed when a fire tore through the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora, Goa, early Sunday.
Various Indian media have stated that four Nepali nationals were among the deceased.
“Among those killed were 20 staff members and five tourists, including four from Delhi. The staff were from several states, including Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Assam and West Bengal,” The Hindustan Times reported. “...and four were Nepalese nationals.”
Reuters reported that Indian authorities said a full investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire. “I have ordered a magisterial inquiry into the entire incident to identify the cause and fix responsibility,” Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant wrote on X. He said six injured people were in stable condition.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he had spoken to Sawant and conveyed condolences. Modi announced compensation of up to 200,000 rupees for families of the dead and 50,000 rupees for the injured.
Police told Reuters that officers were alerted to the fire at 12:04 am and worked through the night to bring it under control. All bodies have been recovered. Reuters reported that at least four of the victims were tourists and 14 were club staff.
Goa is one of India’s busiest tourist destinations, drawing more than five million visitors in the first half of this year, including more than 270,000 foreigners.
