Three people were killed in separate landslides in western Nepal on Saturday, as relentless monsoon rain continued to trigger landslides, block roads and threaten settlements across Jajarkot and Rolpa districts.

In Jajarkot, rescue teams recovered the bodies of a 54-year-old man and his mother from a landslide in ward 2 of Bheri Municipality on Sunday morning. Om Singh Khatri and his mother, Rati Khatri, were missing since Saturday evening after a landslide buried them in Farulla.

Nepali Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police personnel were deployed for the search. Repeated landslides along the roads leading to the area have made access difficult, officials said.

A 70-year-old man, Bhim Bahadur Karki, remains missing after a landslide in Chisapani, also in the same ward. Search and rescue teams have faced difficulties reaching the area because landslides have blocked roads at several points.

In Rolpa, a 72-year-old woman was killed when a landslide buried her house in Dhereni, ward 5 of Lungri Rural Municipality, at around 3am on Saturday.

Police said Ammi Gurung was asleep when the landslide struck following hours of heavy rain. When rescuers reached the site, only part of her head was visible through the debris. Police and residents recovered her body.

Another landslide in ward 6 of Sunil Smriti Rural Municipality damaged a house. No one was injured, and no livestock was reported killed.

Rolpa has been experiencing periods of heavy rain for about a week, triggering landslides, floods and lightning strikes across the district. According to the District Police Office, 19 people have died in landslide and lightning incidents during the past week.

The worst incident occurred in ward 5 of Thabang Rural Municipality on Wednesday night, when a landslide swept down a settlement and buried 12 houses, killing 13 people. One person remains missing.

Four people were also killed when landslides separately buried two houses in ward 2 of Sunchhahari Rural Municipality. Another person died after being struck by lightning in Lungri.

The continuing rain has left rural roads blocked and several settlements vulnerable to further landslides. Police said they have received reports of rain-related incidents from several parts of the district.

Authorities have urged people living in vulnerable areas to remain alert and move to safer locations if they see signs of an impending landslide. Local units and security agencies have increased monitoring and preparedness as saturated slopes remain unstable.

With heavy rain forecast to continue, officials warn that already weakened slopes could give way without warning.
