The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) showcased the achievements of its European Union Support to Inclusive Federalism (EUSIF) project in Karnali Province at an event in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
The project, funded by the European Union, has been instrumental in advancing federalism and governance in Karnali Province from January 2022 to August 2024, a statement issued by the UNDP said.
The event, attended by representatives from the three-tiers of government, donors, and development partners, highlighted the project’s key outcomes at a programme organised by the UNDP in Kathmandu.
Addressing the function, Julien Chevillard, deputy resident representative of UNDP, emphasised the importance of sharing innovations in service delivery as preparations begin for the next phase of the Provincial and Local Governance Support Programme (PLGSP).
Similarly, Jose-Luis Vinuesa, head of cooperation at the European Union in Nepal, expressed hopes of replicating the successful initiatives in other provinces to further enhance federalism across the country.
One of the project's significant achievements includes the establishment of One-Stop Service Delivery centres in Chaurjahari, Dullu, and Panchapuri municipalities, which provided over 3,000 residents with fast and accessible services, according to the UNDP.
The EUSIF project has also focused on empowering marginalised groups, including the Badi community, by conducting socio-economic studies that informed resource allocation by the provincial government.
The organisers concluded the event, on Wednesday, with a gallery walk showcasing these and other achievements of the EUSIF project.
