Chief Justice nominee Shrestha to face parliamentary hearing on Monday
His nomination needs to be approved by a joint parliamentary committee before the President appoints him.

Chief Justice nominee Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha will face a parliamentary hearing on Monday.
A meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee of the federal Parliament held on Sunday decided to hold discussions with complainers on Monday and conduct the hearing the same day, according to Bimala Ghimire, under-secretary of the committee. A total of three complaints have been filed against Shrestha at the House panel.
A meeting of the Constitutional Council on August 3 nominated the senior-most justice of the Supreme Court Shrestha for the new Chief Justice.
His nomination needs to be approved by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee before the President appoints him.
Article 292 of the constitution requires the chief justice, justices, and those nominated to constitutional commissions and ambassadorial posts to pass parliamentary hearings before they take the oath of the positions. President Ramchandra Paudel will appoint Shrestha as the chief justice if he gets through the hearing process.
Only a two-thirds majority of the 15-member committee can reject the nomination.
Shrestha is leading the judiciary as acting chief justice from August 6 following the retirement of Hari Krishna Karki.
