Nepal on Thursday reported 8,227 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the nationwide infection tally to 488,645.

Similarly, 78 people tested positive in a total of 392 antigen tests, according to the Health Ministry.

In its regular situation report, the ministry did not mention the death toll over the past 24 hours. It, however, reported 190 Covid-19-related fatalities, which included the number of deaths managed by Nepal Army on different dates.

The countrywide death toll has now reached 5,847. The number of active cases stands at 115,852.

According to the ministry, 366,946 infected people have recovered from the disease so far; 6,543 of them in the last 24 hours.

Kathmandu Valley recorded 3,232 new infections in the past 24 hours. Of these, 2,600 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, 403 in Lalitpur and 229 in Bhaktapur.

In the past 24 hours, 877 new infections were recorded in Province 1, 534 in Province 2, 3,677 in Bagmati, 353 in Gandaki, 1,666 in Lumbini, 488 in Karnali and 632 in Sudurpaschim.

According to the data released by the ministry, 44 districts are home to more than 500 active cases each and other 14 districts host more than 200 active cases each.

As of Thursday, 2,855,793 PCR tests have been carried out across the country.

A total of 21,695 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.

On Thursday, 1,748 individuals infected with the virus were being treated in intensive care units across the country. Another 492—56 in Province 1, 51 in Province 2, 314 in Bagmati, 36 in Gandaki, 15 in Lumbini, eight in Karnali and 12 in Sudurpaschim—were on ventilator support.

Nepal on Wednesday reported 8,064 new Covid-19 cases and 246 fatalities. Similarly, 8,136 new coronavirus cases and 196 fatalities were recorded on Tuesday and 9,198 new cases and 214 Covid-19 related fatalities were reported on Monday.
