Wannianchang

Wannianchang is a bustling, traditional residential neighbourhood located in the eastern part of Chengdu (Chengdong). It is well-connected to the rest of the city by multiple metro lines.

Pros

The mix of old compounds and new high-rises creates a huge rental market, keeping prices competitive for students. They can also find small, family-run noodle shops and dumpling stalls that offer filling meals for affordable prices.

Cons

The area is heavily urbanised and concrete-dominated, offering very few parks or quiet natural spaces for relaxation.

Shilidian

Shilidian is a university-centric neighbourhood situated on the outer northeastern rim of Chengdu’s East Side. It is a vital transit hub for the student population, linked to the urban core via Metro.

Pros

It is known for having some of the lowest rental prices in East Chengdu due to an excess supply of newly built high-rise apartments and student housing. Similarly, the neighbourhood caters directly to the adjacent Chengdu University of Technology.

Cons

The neighbourhood is quite far from Chengdu’s central business districts, resulting in long commute times to the city centre.

Huaishudian

Huaishudian is a vibrant, fast-evolving neighbourhood in Chengdu’s Chenghua District that bridges historical merchant roots with modern urban transit.

Pros

Offers a genuine slice of local Chengdu culture, free from the heavy commercialisation and inflated prices of major tourist zones. It is also packed with highly rated, budget-friendly local eateries.

Cons

The metro station and surrounding roads experience heavy traffic and crowding during peak morning and evening rush hours.

Longquanyi District

Located in eastern Chengdu, Longquanyi is a suburban district. It borders Jinjiang District to the west and Chenghua District to the northwest.

Pros

The rents are comparatively cheaper than in the central areas of Chengdu. Similarly, its proximity to the mountains is well-suited to activities like hiking.

Cons

There are not many entertainment amenities except for the Dong An stadium, which hosts local concerts.

Jinjiang District

The Jinjiang district, located at the heart of Chengdu, serves as an economic and political powerhouse. It also includes several public transport links, including buses and metro services.

Pros

It is one of the most tourist-friendly areas in Chengdu, making it easy to find international restaurants and shops.

Cons

The lack of green spaces is evident due to the area’s urban nature. This disconnect from nature is evident in the small number of parks.
