In response to the devastation caused by the recent flash floods in Nepal, Gallery 108, will be showcasing a new humanitarian art initiative titled ‘Gallery 108 - Art for Relief’.
The initiative brings together artists and art lovers in a collective effort to support communities affected by the floods. Participating artists will each donate one artwork, which will be exhibited together at Gallery 108 and offered for sale at an accessible price.
One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of these artworks will go directly towards flood relief efforts, providing food, shelter, essential supplies, and assistance to affected families.
Gallery 108 will oversee the exhibition, promotion, sale, and coordination of the initiative, with all participating artists formally acknowledged as contributors to this shared humanitarian effort.
“This was a spontaneously planned initiative as we were reflecting on how we, as an art community, could contribute since not everyone could go to the field,” said Sugat Ratna Shakya, owner of Gallery 108. “This will be an ongoing exhibit for three months, where the gallery will not seek profits or commissions, but rather look for ways to contribute to the disaster relief.”
Organisers hope the initiative will encourage members of Nepal's art community to come together in a meaningful gesture of solidarity, turning individual works of art into tangible support for those in need.
