A male elephant, approximately 35 years old, was found dead on Saturday morning in a field of Thakurbaba Municipality-4, Khailar of Bardiya district.
Authorities from Bardiya National Park have indicated that the elephant likely died from natural causes. Ashok Ram, the Chief of Bardiya National Park, confirmed that a post-mortem report is expected to provide more details on the cause of death.
The elephant, which had recently been causing damage to homes and crops in nearby villages, had been entering local settlements. Wildlife veterinarians and investigation officers from the park have been dispatched to the scene for further examination. The elephant was found approximately 5 km south of the Bardiya National Park.
The park authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
