Suspended chief of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Lokman Singh Karki has described allegations against him as vindictive lies concocted by a group of people who were under or in the process of investigation for graft.

The embattled head of the anti-corruption agency, who faces an impeachment motion in Parliament and a lawsuit challenging his appointment in Supreme Court, posted a statement in his website on Thursday, hitting back at his critics. 

Karki has said that people who have amassed disproportionate assets inside the country and offshore, protectors of cartels and syndicates, tax-dodging media houses, and corrupt bureaucrats and politicians were bent on showing him in a bad light to avoid being exposed.

He has also challenged his detractors to come up with convincing evidences to prove the allegations against him. 

Stating that Nepali people’s expectation was prevalence of rule of law, good governance, corruption-free society and prosperity, Karki has said that his work as the CIAA chief were according to law and for the welfare of the country and the citizens. 

“It is evident that CIAA has initiated and intervened into a number of areas as part of its efforts to discourage the rampant corruption and punish the guilty,” Karki has said in the statement.  

He has further said that he will continue his fight against corruption, even if he does not get justice.  

Karki has said that he will expose the political leaders involved in corruption when the right time comes.
