Everest English School in Mibachhen, Bhaktapur has donated Rs 333,333 to Mahabir Pun to support his initiative for establishing National Innovation Centre.
The amount was handed over to Pun by Byakul Maila (Prdeep Kumar Rai), the lyricist of Nepali national anthem, Ram Gopal Karmacharya, chairman of school management committee, and Bhakta Rajbhandari, school principal.
Speaking at the programme, Pun expressed his gratitude towards the school for extending support to his campaign.
According to Pun, Rs 3.1 million has been collected so far and additional Rs 4 million has been committed by people from different walks of life.
His initial target is to raise 500 million and invest the money to build a hydropower project that could general around 10-15 megawatt of electricity.
Pun plans to use the money generated from the power plant to run the centre.
According to Pun, so far around a dozen schools and colleges from Nepal have donated money for the project.
Last month, Uniglobe Higher Secondary School and College and Global College International had jointly donated Rs 51,111 for Pun’s initiative.
Magsaysay award winner Pun, a pioneer in wireless internet technology, had made the announcement for fund on his Facebook page a month ago after the government failed to pay heed to his repeated requests to help his initiative. “I am highly motivated to see people’s enthusiasm to support my project,” Pun told the Post, hoping that some more support would pour in for his initiative.
