Mustang records around 50 percent turnout
Voting continues peacefully nationwide as officials say polling is running normally across districts.Post Report
Around half of the voters had cast their ballots in Mustang district by 2 pm on Thursday as voting for the House of Representatives election continued peacefully across the country.
Officials said 5,664 out of the district’s 11,328 registered voters had voted by that time. Voting was taking place peacefully at all 39 polling centres in the district.
The Election Commission Nepal said polling had been taking place smoothly nationwide and that no polling centre had reported any serious obstruction so far.
Similarly, around 50 percent turnout was also reported in Dolpa district, according to the office of the chief returning officer. Although voting started late at some polling centres, authorities said voter participation had remained enthusiastic.
In Jumla district, 40.74 percent turnout was recorded by 2 pm, with 29,227 voters casting their ballots. Of them, 14,940 were women and 14,287 were men. Voting was underway at 110 polling centres across the district.
In Bajura district, around 42 percent turnout was reported by 2 pm, with 37,353 votes cast. Officials said polling was continuing peacefully across the district.
Meanwhile, in Makwanpur district, approximately 34 percent turnout had been recorded by 2 pm. A total of 166,073 votes had been cast out of 315,334 registered voters in the district’s two constituencies. Election officials said voting was proceeding peacefully at all 374 polling centres.
In Kavrepalanchok district, 123,159 votes had been cast by 2 pm across the district’s two constituencies. Of these, 54,925 votes were cast by women and 68,234 by men, accounting for roughly 37 percent of the total electorate. Polling stations reported steady voter turnout, with long queues seen at some centres.
In Gulmi district, around 70,460 votes had been cast by 2 pm, representing roughly 35 percent turnout. Authorities said the situation remained normal across all polling centres in the district, which has a total of 229,549 registered voters.
Meanwhile, about 30 percent turnout was recorded in Bajhang district by around 2:30 pm. According to the District Election Office, 38,148 voters had cast their ballots by that time.
In Rolpa district, about 32 percent turnout was reported by 2 pm. The district, which has a single House of Representatives constituency, has 149,597 registered voters. Authorities said more than 2,000 security personnel had been deployed. Polling was taking place at 86 polling stations and 182 polling centres, including two temporary centres.
Across the country, voters are electing 165 members of the House of Representatives under the first-past-the-post system and 110 members under the proportional representation system. A total of 65 political parties are contesting the direct elections across 61 election symbols.
