The Lalitpur District Court has issued a 21-day public notice in the name of Jyoti Gurung, former wife of Nepali Congress leader Dhanraj Gurung, in connection with an alleged misappropriation of funds at Lalitpur-based Miteri Cooperative.
The court issued the notice on Monday, directing Jyoti to appear before it in person or through a legal representative with evidence and a written response.
She has been accused of embezzling around Rs 125 million from the cooperative. Dhanraj has also been linked to the case. However, proceedings against him were dropped after police were unable to establish his involvement.
The notice includes her family details, listing Dhanraj Gurung as her spouse.
It states that the case was filed by Bodh Bikram Thapa and that an earlier summons issued in her name had been cancelled. Following a May 19 court order, the notice has been published under Section 105(22) of the National Civil Procedure Code, 2017.
The court has directed Jyoti to submit a written response within 21 days of publication, excluding travel time, warning that failure to appear may result in proceedings under the law and that she may lose the right to challenge the case later.
