Nepal, India hold seventh Joint Commission meeting
Minister for Foreign Affairs NP Saud and his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar co-chaired the meeting. The Indian minister also met President Paudel and Prime Minister Dahal.Post Report
The 7th meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission was held in Kathmandu on Thursday.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Minister for Foreign Affairs NP Saud and his Indian counterpart Dr S Jainshankar co-chaired the meeting held at the Yak and Yeti Hotel.
During the meeting, issues pertaining to economic relations, connectivity, trade and transit, power, and water resources between the two nations were discussed.
“Various aspects of Nepal-India relations were discussed on the occasion under the thematic areas of economic relations, connectivity, trade and transit, power and water resources, education and culture and political matters among others,” the foreign ministry said.
As per the ministry’s January 3 press release, the meeting will conclude on Friday.
Jaishankar arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday morning to lead the Indian delegation to the highest level bilateral mechanism between Nepal and India entrusted with the responsibility of reviewing the entire status of bilateral ties.
Minister Saud received Jaishankar upon his arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport.
The Indian External Affairs Minister also called on President Ramchandra Paudel and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal earlier today to discuss issues of mutual interest.
During the meeting at Sheetal Niwas, the President’s Office, President Paudel emphasised the need for cooperation and assistance between Nepal and India in connectivity, mitigating the effects of climate change and hydropower development.
Jaishankar also mentioned that he valued the guidance and sentiments of the President for a strong and expanding Nepal-India ties.
“Conveyed the warm greetings of President Droupadi Murmu. Valued his guidance and sentiments for a strong and expanding India-Nepal ties,” the Indian minister said via his X account.
Soon after the meeting, the Indian minister called on Prime Minister Dahal at the Prime Minister’s Office at Singha Durbar.
