Nepali Congress lawmaker Sanjaya Kumar Gautam, who was on a hunger strike demanding the restoration of a bridge, ended his strike on the eighth day on Saturday.
Gautam called off the strike after signing a 15-point agreement with Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Prakash Jwala.
The agreement includes constructing a new bridge in the Jabdighat area in place of the damaged bridge.
Likewise, an agreement has been reached to remove the structure of the bridge washed away by flood by June 3, take ahead the process for operation of the Gulariya-Murtiha border point and construct the Bhurigaon-Telpani road among others.
Minister Jwala said the government will call for tender for the construction of the new bridge within June second week.
Gautam, who was elected from Bardiya-1, resorted to the hunger strike on May 13 putting forth 15-point demands that included speedy restoration of the damaged Jabdighat bridge, which connects Barbardiya with Gulariya.
The bridge, which was constructed by notorious builder Pappu Construction, caved in before it was handed over to the government in 2017.
