Police have arrested a Myanmar national on the charge of obtaining Nepali citizenship and a passport through forged documents.
Mohammad Nur Alam, 39, who was a teacher at a madrasa in Sarlahi, was arrested by a police team deployed from Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office from Kalanki.
A preliminary police investigation states Alam, who came to Nepal from Myanmar through Bangladesh in 2012, obtained citizenship by submitting fake details as a Nepali national of then Tribhuvannagar village development committee.
Police said Alam also obtained a Nepali passport based on the citizenship certificate.
He has been handed over to Kathmandu District Police Range for investigation and action on the offence of document forgery.
