President Bidya Devi Bhandari has requested voters to participate enthusiastically in the federal and provincial elections scheduled for Sunday.
In a message issued on the elections eve, the head of the state said, “As voting is the highest exercise of civil rights, I request all my sisters and brothers to participate enthusiastically.”
The president further said the elections have historical importance in institutionalising the federal democratic republic.
“House of Representatives and provincial assembly elections are being held tomorrow. The elections have historical importance in institutionalising the federal democratic republic guaranteed by the constitution that was formulated by the constituent assembly,” the president said in the message.
“Democratic systems and institutions gradually become more accountable to the people through the general elections held in a fair and free environment. This helps to establish the good governance and transparency that the people are looking for. The national goals of peace, stability and prosperity can be achieved only through a healthy and strong democracy.”
According to the president, the most beautiful aspect of democracy is the government run by representatives elected by the people.
Since the restoration of democracy in 1990, the nation will hold its seventh election to elect lawmakers (including the two elections for the Constituent Assembly) on Sunday. This will be the second federal and provincial elections since the promulgation of the 2015 constitution.
