Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is also the Chairman of Nepal Communist Party (NCP), lashed out at the central members on Thursday for lodging protests against the party leadership.

Demanding the meeting of central committee at the earliest and criticising the activities of the leadership both at the party and the government’s front the central members had collectively handed over a memorandum to general secretary Bishnu Poudel on Wednesday.

In their six-point memorandum the central members had also questioned over the lifestyles and morale of the leadership, ideological clarity and lack of good governance among others.

While informing the secretariat meeting about the memorandum of the discontent central leaders, who were considered to be close to senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairman Oli had made aggressive comments for challenging the leadership.

PM Oli is known for his sarcastic comments.

Sources claimed that as soon as Chairman Oli got the memorandum from general secretary Bishnu Poudel he had started lashing out at them asking why they needed meetings.

“Why did they need the meetings,” a source quoted PM Oli as saying in the meeting claiming that he came to know about the memorandum from the media. “I knew from the media that some central members had presented a memorandum.” Prime Minister had claimed that leaders within the party were trying to attack him and the political achievements.

Leaders including Nepal, however, had tried to pacify Oli saying that they were free to lodge their discontent. Secretariat members including Bamdev Gautam and Narayan Kaji Shrestha had urged chairman Oli to discuss on the issues raised by the central members.

After chairman Oli continued with his aggressive comments, the meeting was postponed till Friday without discussing other agendas.

During today’s meeting, called after a month, the task force of home minister Ram Bahadur Thapa and general secretary Bishnu Poudel formed during the last meeting, proposed a list of the leaders to lead the party’s seven provincial committees.

The lists of the provincial leadership were distributed to all nine secretariat members to study and the provincial committees would be endorsed by the next meeting of the secretariat before taking it to the standing committee meeting for approval.

Senior party leader Madhav Kumar Nepal had lodged serious discontent over the selection of four each top leaders of the provincial committees when he was at Ghana. After returning home Nepal had called a tea reception for the standing committee members and expressed his discontent over the decisions made in his absence.

The secretariat meeting has already selected in-charges, joint in-charges, chairmen and secretaries of the seven provinces of the party.

Friday’s secretariat meeting would discuss on a number of issues including the date of the standing committee.

“Friday’s meeting will deal on forming politburo, unification of sister wings, work division of central members besides giving a final shape to provincial committees,” said Narayan Kaji Shrestha, party spokesperson.

The secretariat meeting will continue from 4 pm today.
