Baneshwor-based Sangam Sweets sealed for selling substandard confectionery

A DFTQC monitoring team led by Investigation Officer Ishwor Subedi sealed Sangam Sweets’ warehouse in Milan Chowk and barred the shop from manufacturing and selling sweets until further notice.
According to the department, the sweets shop was found using a chemical, Hydro A1, which is used to polish textile while manufacturing sweets. The chemical gives the sweets a glossy texture but is harmful for consumption.
During the monitoring, the DFTQC team also found the sweets shop using eight-year-old coconut powder while making the confectionery.
Similarly, the monitoring team also found the polarity level of the ghee and oil exceeding the permitted level.
