Two sisters sustained serious injuries in an acid attack at Chandrapur Muncipality-6 in Rautahat district on Tuesday night.
Police said Samjhana Das, 18, and her sister Susmita, 15, were asleep in their home when an unidentified group reportedly barged inside their bedroom and threw acid on their faces.
The two sisters received primary care at Chandranigahapur Hospital before they were taken to Kathmandu for further treatment. The girls’ father, Jadolal Das, said the incident occurred at around midnight.
By the time the police team from Area Police Office, Chandrapur, reached the Das residence, the assailants had long fled the scene.
No arrests had been made as of Wednesday afternoon.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Yuvaraj Khadka said since the two sisters did not know any of the attackers, police were having difficulty identifying the suspects based on their descriptions.
