26,625 candidates in the fray for Phase III local polls: EC
As many as 26,652 candidates have filed their nominations to contest the third phase of local elections slated to be held in eight districts of Province 2 on September 18.As many as 26,652 candidates have filed their nominations to contest the third phase of local elections slated to be held in eight districts of Province 2 on September 18. There are 6,627 posts up for grabs in 136 local units of province 2.
According to the details received by Joint Election Operation Centre (JEOC), established at Election Commission (EC), until 9:30am on Thursday, 1477 candidates have filed nominations for the post of chair, 949 candidates for deputy chair, and 5,885 candidates for ward chair posts.
Likewise, 4,886 candidates have filed nominations for the post of women members, 9,582 candidates are running for member post from open category, and 3873 candidates have been registered for member post under Dalit category. The number of candidates is likely to increase as the details of the nominations are still arriving.
Sarlahi district has the highest 230 candidates for chairmen posts, while Rautahat district has the lowest 146 candidates for the posts. The Election Commission said there was “overwhelming” and peaceful participation during Wednesday’s nomination filing for the third phase elections.
