68,000 security personnel to be deployed in Province 2 for polls

A large number of security personnel have been deployed in Province 2 considering the security sensitivity.
Most of the polling stations in Saptari district have been deemed as sensitive and most sensitive for the upcoming third phase of local level polls.
Having nine municipalities and nine rural municipalities, Saptari district has altogether 295 polling centres and 462 polling stations.
Among them, 324 polling stations have been declared sensitive and 138 as most sensitive, SP Mukesh Kumar Singh of the District Police Office, Saptari, said.
According to Chief District Office Bhagirath Pandey, nine police personnel will be deployed at the sensitive polling stations and 11 police personnel will be fanned out at the most sensitive polling stations.
Similarly, Armed Police Force (APF) personnel will be deputed in each polling station, CDO Pandey added.
Likewise, Nepal Army Personnel will carry out regular patrolling.
He said that discussions are underway with the Indian officials to tighten security at the polling stations adjacent to the Indian border.

Election Commission said that preparations for the third phase of local level elections in Province 2 slated for September 18 has been completed.
According to EC Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Shah, 68,000 security personnel will be deployed in eight districts of Province 2 for the elections.
Nepal Police will hold the command inside the voting stations and booths while the Armed Police Force (APF) will be deputed as backup security. Similarly, Nepal Army will be mobilised on the peripheral areas of the voting stations, Shah said.
He added that two joint secretaries will be monitoring the election code of conduct in two districts each.
According to Chief at the District Police Office, Siraha, 3,000 Nepal Police personnel will be deployed in the district for security.
Security beefed up
Local Security Committee has tightened security in Dhanusha district for elections.
A meeting of the committee held at the District Police Office, Dhanusha, on Tuesday has decided to beef up the security.
In view of possible clash among the cadres of various political parties while registering candidacies on Wednesday, different timing has been divided for the political parties in the district.
According to DSP Prabin Dhital, consuming and selling of alcohol during the elections have been banned.
