The rain-fed Bagmati River has burst through a dam at Laxmi Ghat to enter human settlements in Gadhimai Rural Municipality, Rautahat on Sunday.
Following the incident, security personnel have urged the locals in the area to remain vigilant.
The water level in the flood-swollen river continues to rise as rains have not ceased.
Locals have taken shelter at the roof of their houses to avoid the flooding and are awaiting rescue.
