The reconstruction works on historical Nuwakot Durbar will start from the next fiscal year, according to an official of the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA).
The seven-storey palace was severely damaged in the 2015 April earthquake. The palace walls have been propped up with 29 iron poles to keep it upright. Visitors are still barred from entering the palace. The surrounding buildings like Rangamahal and Garadghar were destroyed in the quake.
Yamlal Bhusal, an NRA official, said the reconstruction works will gather momentum at the start of the new fiscal year. “The reconstruction works have been delayed as it takes more human resources and technical skills,” he lamented.
The palace will be constructed with the help of the Chinese government. The retrofitting technique will be employed to rebuild the palace as per the engineer’s advice, said Bhusal.
