Ranju Kumari Jha, the chairperson of Women, Children, Senior Citizens and Social Welfare Committee of the Legislature-Parliament, has expressed concern over haphazard fee hike in private schools.
Addressing a programme organised by National Campaign for Education -Nepal (NCE-N) in the Capital on Sunday, Jha said that private schools were encouraged to increase their tuition rates every year because the Education Ministry had failed to implement the criteria for fee increment.
“The government has set criteria for private schools regarding their tuition rates. But the schools are openly disregarding the criteria and the Education Ministry is not doing anything about it,”
Jha said.
She was of the view that the Education Ministry should not hesitate to take action against the schools that raise their tuitions arbitrarily.
“It is the ministry’s responsibility to implement the system and to ensure that the system is followed,” she added.
Claiming that teachers’ involvement in party politics was hurting the education sector, Jha urged the people in the teaching profession to focus in teaching.
“If they want to do politics, then why not quit teaching and actively join politics,” she said.
Nepali Congress leader Bhimsendas Pradhan said depoliticising the education sector has become a crucial need to uplift the country’s education standard.
CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Amrita Thapa, Rastriya Prajatantra Party leader Rajaram Shrestha, Federal Socialist Forum leader Meera Maharjan were also unequivocal about drawing the line between politics and the country’s education sector.
The programme was organised for submitting a memorandum to the political parties, seeking good governance and sense of responsibility in the education sector.
The NCE-Nepal Chairman Kumar Bhattarai submitted a 12-point memorandum to the political parties on the occasion.
