The Nepal Army (NA) has started constructing safe community homes in the earthquake-hit Dhading, Nuwakot, Rasuwa and Sindhupalchok districts.
According to the Ministry of Urban Development, the NA will construct 155 such homes in the quake-affected districts in the first phase. The NA will hand over the buildings to the concerned District Disaster Management Committees (DDMC) upon completion.
The NA is constructing safe community homes in five VDCs of northern Dhading, one of the worst affected region in the district. Officials said building materials are being ferried via helicopters, owing to lack of road connectivity.
In Nuwakot, the NA is constructing homes at Barshunchet VDC-1. Sixty-three soldiers are involved in the project to shelter the earthquake-displaced families from Barshunchet, Kintang and Deurali. Rohit Gurung, chief of the NA Shreenath Battalion, said they are constructing two buildings that will have 12 rooms each.
To shelter the earthquake-displaced families in Rasuwa, the NA is constructing safe community homes in Dhunche, Syaphrubesi and Dhaibung VDCs.
Narayan Prasad Sapkota, chief of the National Reconstruction Authority’s Sub Regional Office in Rasuwa, said each building would accommodate up to 30 families.
Besides the NA, the Urban Development and Building Division Office in Rasuwa is also building homes for the earthquake-displaced families at Bhorle, Syaphrubesi, Dhaibung and Laharepauwa.
