Hero MotoCorp Limited (HMCL) rolled out three new motorcycles, the Splendor iSmart 110, Achiever 150 and Super Splendor 125 cc, in the domestic market on Monday. These machines from Hero come with i3S (idle stop start system) technology that is claimed to be useful when travelling on congested roads.
According to HMCL, the advanced i3S system automatically switches off the engine if the motorbike is left idle for five seconds. It can be restarted by just squeezing the clutch lever.
“This is meant to save fuel, reduce smoke emission and contribute to preventing environmental degradation,” said Prabir Kumar Saha, regional head for Asia and general manager of Global Business of HMCL.
Speaking at the launch programme, Saha said the new feature would also help increase mileage besides making the products eco-friendly. According to him, the company has focused on manufacturing innovative products through its Centre of Innovation and Technology recently established in Jaipur, India.
In addition, the Splendor iSmart 110 and Achiever 150 come with a ‘Torque on Demand’ engine. The motorbikes are claimed to have first-in-class Automatic Headlamp On system which provides enhanced visibility ensuring more safety to the rider.
The Splendor iSmart 110 is powered by a new 110 cc engine. The high-tech two-wheeler comes with a new chassis and frame. “The feature helps the rider to maintain better balance besides ensuring convenient and easy riding over long distances and rough roads,” said Avik Jyoti, chairman of Nepal General Marketing, the authorised distributor of HMCL in Nepal.
The motorcycle’s air-cooled single-cylinder, 4-stroke powerful engine produces a maximum power output of 9.1 PS at 7,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 9 Nm at 5,500 rpm. The new engine produces low friction to ensure better engine power. The Splendor iSmart 110 is priced at Rs166,000.
Meanwhile, the Achiever 150 is equipped with the new BS-IV compliant 150 cc engine. In addition to delivering best-in-class performance and fuel efficiency, the motorbike comes with bold styling and offers a premium riding experience, claims HMCL.
The engine produces a maximum power output of 10 kW at 8,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 12.8 Nm at 5,000 rpm.
The Achiever 150 from Hero is available in varied colours including panther black metallic premium, candy blazing red-vibrant and ebony grey metallic-elegant and classic. The two-wheeler costs Rs203,000.
Likewise, the 125 cc variant of the Super Splendor comes with modern features along with i3S technology. It is available for Rs176,000.
HMCL maintains production plants at five locations globally. The company claims it has been doing business in 34 countries and serving over 70 million customers.
