Nepal confirmed two more Covid-19 related deaths and registered 232 new cases on Saturday as the national tally reached 15,491.

“A 75-year-old man from Devdaha Municipality in Rupandehi, who was admitted to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for tuberculosis on Sunday, died while undergoing treatment on Wednesday,” said Dr Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson for the Health Ministry, at a regular press briefing. “His swab samples came back positive for coronavirus on Thursday.”

Another Covid-19 fatality was reported from Gorkha.

“A 44-year-old man from Palungtar Municipality Ward 7 in Gorkha, who tested positive for the virus on Friday, died during treatment at Gorkha Hospital on Saturday morning,”Gautam said. “He had returned from Qatar on Wednesday and was kept at a quarantine facility in the district.”

He had diabetes and was admitted to the hospital for pneumonia on Friday, said Gautam.

With the new fatalities, the Covid-19 toll has reached 34.

The ministry also confirmed 232 new cases in the last 24 hours.

“Out of the 4,050 PCR tests carried out in the last 24 hours at various labs across the country, samples of 232 individuals came back positive for the coronavirus,” said Gautam.

The country had recorded one death and 740 cases, the highest in a single day, on Friday while one death and 473 new cases were reported on Thursday.

“So far, 246,297 polymerase chain reaction tests have been conducted across the country,” said Gautam. “A total of 6,415 individuals have recovered from the disease in the country.”
