Kantipur Publications has now entered its 27th year. On this occasion, I would first like to extend my gratitude to our valued subscribers, readers, advertisers and well-wishers. As a leading media house, Kantipur has been playing the strong role of a watchdog. The meaning of press freedom enshrined in the constitution of the federal democratic republic Nepal is to give right information to the people and to prepare an informed public mandate.
The journey we’ve undertaken is a manifestation of Nepal’s democracy and press freedom, along with the people’s struggle for their rights. Throughout the numerous ups and downs in our quest for full democracy, Kantipur has been doing its journalism with the spirit of ‘right information is your right’ and would like to reiterate our commitment to doing the same in the days ahead.
Democracy is a broad domain that encompasses public participation, concern for the public and people’s rights, all of which are safeguarded by a free press. Internalising this duty, we will move forward on our journey to become bold champions of the rights of the people with additional confidence and responsibility.
As the country has adopted a new federal democratic set-up, we have also started provincial editions. Through our seven separate editions, we have not only included local and provincial contents but are also making the local editions more local and province-oriented. Recognising the interests and concerns of our readers, we will diversify our content, and pursue more investigative and research-based stories. Taking into account the rising online population and growing access to the internet, our online editions will also become more dynamic.
As a leading private media house, Kantipur Media Group is inextricably linked with the nation’s development. It is widely known that KMG has established a non-profit philanthropic wing—Kantipur Foundation—as part of its social responsibility. Only yesterday, we concluded a two-day international level Kantipur Conclave. We held discourses on numerous questions facing our society today by bringing together the influential personalities from around the world.
We feel honoured to have presented the Kantipur Icon awards yesterday to four notable personages from the hands of President Bidya Devi Bhandari, as per of our commitment to honouring, every two years, those who provide society with hope and support through their hard work and dedication.
Lastly, I hope that we continue to receive inspiration and encouragement from our readers, subscribers, advertisers and well-wishers.
