Art Kathmandu 2026 brings together Nepal’s diverse artistic heritage
The upcoming exhibit blends traditional forms such as Thangka and Paubha with contemporary practices.Post Report
‘Art Kathmandu 2026’, a collaborative art exhibition, is happening at Kathmandu Marriott Hotel from April 7.
Organised by Rimo Kathmandu, an art gallery, the artworks pay homage to various art forms across Nepal, showcasing heritage and history.
The exhibition features over 100+ artists, including Tshering Sherpa, Lok Chitrakar, Sunil Sigdel, Kiran Manandhar, Ishan Pariyar and Mukti Singh Thapa. In ‘Art Kathmandu 2026’, artists range from senior level to those who have never presented their work before.
As for the art forms, artworks will be executed in a wide spectrum of media. These include sacred and traditional painting forms such as Thangka and Pauwa, as well as abstract compositions.
Drawing-based practices are represented through pen and ink, graphite, and charcoal. The exhibit further includes three-dimensional works in ceramic, intaglio prints created through etching, and paintings executed in watercolour, oil, and acrylic.
“For decades, many significant Nepali artists have either presented beyond the country’s borders, or their work is held in private collections, international galleries, and archives rarely accessible to Nepalis. Art Kathmandu offers an opportunity to encounter the work of these artists, allowing audiences and new artists to trace artistic lineages, shifts in form and thought, and the evolving cultural consciousness of Nepal,” claims the organising committee of the exhibition.
