Bollywood actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday with relief supplies for people affected by the devastating floods that struck Nepal on August 26.

Sood, who arrived with the Sood Charity Foundation team, said the group had brought food and blankets from India and would continue assessing what affected communities need.

“We are here to meet all the victims of the flood,” Sood told reporters after arriving in Kathmandu. “We just want to be with the people who are in need and will try to bring their lives back [on track].”

He said the immediate relief effort includes blankets and food materials, while the team is also asking people on the ground what additional assistance is required.

“We have got a lot of blankets, food materials and we are still asking whatever they need, we are trying to send it from India,” he said.

Sood said the foundation intends to continue its assistance beyond the immediate emergency.

“We will make sure that not only this month but also in coming months, the relief keeps coming,” he said.

The visit follows Sood’s public expression of solidarity with Nepal shortly after the disaster. He had said that his team would come with food and shelter and help in rebuilding affected communities.

“Nepal, you are not alone. We are coming with food, shelter and the strength to help you rebuild,” the actor wrote.

The August 26 disaster, triggered by a collapse in the Himalayan region, caused catastrophic flooding and landslides across parts of northern Nepal. More than 1,000 people have died, thousands remain missing and large areas of infrastructure have been destroyed. Rescue teams are still searching for missing people, including workers believed to be trapped inside hydropower tunnels.
