Budget-friendly neighbourhoods for Nepali students in Berlin
From campus hubs to distant suburbs, a map of where students can live well in the German capital.Post Report
Mitte
Mitte, also known as the heart of Berlin, is a cost-effective and advantageous place to live for students who value being close to universities and making use of specific local resources.
Pros
The neighbourhood is filled with a variety of international restaurants, galleries, boutiques, and cafes, including vibrant cultures.
Cons
Finding an apartment is referred to as a ‘part-time job’ because of the high demand from both professionals and students.
Lichtenberg
Lichtenberg is a locality situated in eastern Berlin between Friedrichshain and Marzahn. Considered one of the more affordable residential areas, the neighbourhood also consists of modern developments and green spaces.

Pros
Students can find it easier to transport, as Lichtenberg is served by a subway line and some city railway lines. There are also late-night supermarkets, as well as arts and cultural museums.
Cons
The main downside with Lichtenberg is the lack of quality shops and restaurants, unlike its neighbouring region, Friedrichshain.
Marzahn-Hellersdorf
Situated in the northeast of Berlin, Marzahn-Hellersdorf is considered an affordable option for students. It also offers a wide range of garden culture with attractions such as the Gardens of the World.

Pros
Marzahn-Hellersdorf offers diversity in housing options. Along with that, it has a large industrial area with opportunities for students to work.
Cons
It can take a longer time to reach central Berlin, making the commute difficult.
Kreuzberg
Kreuzberg is situated near the centre of Berlin, bordering Mitte. It is known for its diverse culture and strong student presence.

Pros
Students can benefit from its central location. There is a wide range of affordable eateries, and the atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming.
Cons
The area can be overcrowded and noisy, with limited availability of affordable housing due to high demand.
Wedding
Wedding is located in the northern part of Berlin, close to the city centre. It is known for its affordability and growing popularity amongst students and international residents.

Pros
Students can find comparatively lower rents and a diverse community. The area is well connected by U-Bahn and S-Bahn lines, and offers access to budget-friendly shops and food options.
Cons
Some parts of Wedding are a bit underdeveloped, and the social and nightlife scenes are not as vibrant as in other districts.
