‘Charandas Chor’ will be staged at Mandala Theatre Nepal from March 13 to 25. The production will run daily from 5:15 pm to 6:45.
The play is written by the late Habib Tanvir, a playwright, theatre director, poet, and actor from India. The play’s story is based on a famous Rajasthani folk tale that charts the tumultuous life of a petty thief.
In this satirical drama, a thief vows to tell the truth at all times after meeting a spiritual guru. As he continues stealing while refusing to lie, the character becomes caught in a series of situations that reveal hypocrisy and corruption in society.
The play uses humour and symbolic characters to question social and political structures while exploring themes of honesty, morality and justice. Through its engaging narrative and symbolic characters, the play presents a strong critique of political and social systems while highlighting the transformative power of honesty.
