North York
North York is a suburb of Toronto known for its university, parks, and historical sites. The distance between Toronto and North York via Avenue Road is approximately 14 km. Rental prices in North York range from $900 to $1,400 CAD.
Pros: North York is well-connected to the rest of Toronto via the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), including subway lines and bus routes.
Cons: North York's winters are harsh. Students who are not accustomed to the cold may find it difficult to live there.
Etobicoke
It is a lakefront neighbourhood near Humber College’s Lakeshore campus. The rental price ranges from $1,000 to $1,600 CAD. The distance from Etobicoke to Toronto is approximately 14 kilometres.
Pros: Etobicoke is known for its multicultural environment. It allows international students to connect with people from various backgrounds and cultures, enhancing their social experience.
Cons: As it lies near Toronto Pearson International Airport, students may experience noise from air traffic, which could affect their living experience.
Scarborough
Scarborough is a suburban area east of Toronto/Greater Toronto Area (GTA). There is a vast South Asian community and well-maintained neighbourhoods.
Pros :
• Affordable rent for students
• Presence of Nepali community and Nepali markets
• Accessible public transportation
Cons :
• It takes more than one hour to reach downtown.
• Crime rates are higher than in other places.
• It doesn’t support a vibrant lifestyle.
Brampton
Brampton is part of the GTA and is very similar to Scarborough. However, it has more diverse South Asian communities than Scarborough.
Pros:
• Affordable rents for students.
• It has a comfortable environment for new Nepali students to share common living grounds.
• This place is easily accessible to the city.
Cons:
• It uses different public transit systems, such as Brampton Transit and Go Train.
York Region
This area is around midtown Toronto. While uptown and downtown are upscale locations, this area is in the middle and has certain neighbourhoods that can be affordable for Nepali students with spread-out Nepali communities.
Pros:
• It is close to downtown and requires only about 30 minutes of public transit time.
• It has a good neighbourhood with affordable and upscale markets.
• It is accessible to all the transits of Toronto.
Cons:
• It is a little expensive compared to other cities.
• There are usually small living spaces.
• It might be a bit on the noisier side.
