A gold-copper statue of Aghoreswora (Nil Barahi), which was lost 23 years ago from a Pharping, has been found in a prestigious museum in Singapore.
The Nepal Samvat 756 carved icon of archeological importance was lost from pharping on June 16, 1999.
According to “Lost Arts of Nepal”, a campaign to search and locate Nepal’s lost or stolen, heritage, the 756 Samvat (1636 CE) image of Aghoreswora (Nil Barahi), stolen in 1999 from Pharping, has been located in the collection of Asian Civilisations Museum, Singapore.
On the occasion of Hari-Shankar Jatra, there is a tradition of taking seven idols of God like Nil Barahi across the Pharping area. Since four idols have been stolen, the jatra is being conducted with their replicas.
The Asian Civilisations Museum, established in 1997, is one of the four museums in Singapore.
