Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has directed Nepal Police to conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged sexual abuse and death of 24-year-old Anandidevi Sadaya of ward 3 in Nawarajpur Rural Municipality, Siraha.
According to Lekhak’s secretariat, the minister telephoned Inspector General of Police Deepak Thapa on Wednesday morning, inquiring about the incident and instructing the police to identify the truth and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Sadaya was found hanging in her home on Tuesday afternoon around 3pm.
Earlier, on December 24, she had filed a complaint at the Maheshpur Patar Area Police Office accusing two locals—22-year-old Sanjeev Kumar Yadav and 32-year-old Shyam Sundar Yadav—of attempted gang rape.
However, instead of initiating legal action, the police allegedly pressured her to settle the matter. The complaint was registered only on March 9.
Although the complaint was finally lodged, the family said the police are reluctant to arrest the accused.
