Police open fire to arrest burglary suspect

Kathmandu police arrested a man accused of stealing a huge cache of jewellery worth millions of rupees from a house in Tusal Boudha.
A team from the Kathmandu District Police Range apprehended the suspect from the Swayambhu area. Police said they had to open fire at around Wednesday midnight in defence after the accused tried attacking the police. The suspect is receiving treatment at the Trauma Centre.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police Ramesh Thapa, chief of the Kathmandu District Police Range, gold jewellery weighing 65 tolas, some silver items and cash have so far been recovered from the suspect. The value of the stolen items stands at around Rs 8.1 million.
