Police on Tuesday opened fire at a notorious gangster and took him under control from Gongabu of Kathmandu.
The suspect has been identified as Abhilash Tamang, 30, of Kavre district.
Acting on a tip-off that Tamang is staying at room No. 104 of the Hotel Luck with a pistol, a police team under the command of DSP Hobindra Bogati of the Metropolitan Police Range, Teku, reached the hotel and knocked the door of his room. Soon after police knocked the door, Tamang opened the door and tried to attack the deployed police personnel. Later, police opened fire and took him under control, SSP Basanta Lama of the Metropolitan Police Range, Teku said.
Lama said that they were forced to open fire after Tamang tried to attack the police personnel.
SSP Lama informed that Tamang received bullet on his left leg.
He has been taken to the Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) for treatment.
Police said that they have confiscated a Chinese pistol and six rounds of bullets from Tamang’s possession.
Tamang was arrested on various charges in the past as well, SSP Lama said.
