The ongoing pipeline laying work being carried out by the MDWSP has resulted in dusty roads in the Capital.
The ministry’s directive follows the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Minister’s order on Friday to all concerned government agencies and stakeholders to coordinate with each other to come up with measures to control pollution and dust in the Valley.
“The Project Implementation Unit under the MDWSP will use machines available at the Department of Roads to broom the roads,” said Bhim Prasad Upadhyay, secretary at the MoWSS.
The Department of Roads has three broomer machines.
Expressing concern over rising pollution and presence of dust particles in air, especially in the wake of MDWSP’s pipeline laying work, Chief Secretary Som Lal Subedi had asked all concerned agencies to do the needful to control dust and carry out development works in such a way that the general public does not have to suffer.
Pollution in the Valley gets worse during winter and the recent digging of roads to lay water pipelines has but resulted in excessive presence of dust particles in air, putting the general public’s health at risk. The MDWSP’s pipeline laying work is expected to be completed by the end of September.
Road sections at various parts of the Capital have been dug to lay the pipeline.
