Issuing a statement on Friday, the doctors’ associations said the decision was in violations of the agreement reached with Dr Govinda KC, the recommendation of the Kedar Bhakta Mathema-led task force and the proposed Health Education Act.
“The 12-point agreement between the government and Dr KC talks about giving more autonomy to the IoM,” reads the statement. “Instead of honouring the agreement, the TU Senate meeting has made decision which is against the spirit of agreements reached earlier.”
The doctors’ associations have warned of a protest if the decision is not withdrawn.
The statement was jointly issued by National Resident Doctors Association, Residents Association of National Academy of Medical Sciences, Junior Residents Welfare Society, Nepal Medical Students Society, National Doctors Association, Doctors’ Society of Nepal, Doctors for Change, Save Medical Fraternity Movement, Solidarity for Dr KC Alliance and Youth Doctors Association.
