Koirala assures cooperation to Prajapati family
Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has assured the family of Shaan Prajapati, student at a reputed school in Nainital who died last week, that he would take up the matter with the Indian govtShaan, a ninth grader in Sherwood College, was declared dead on November 14. The autopsy report cites ‘septicaemia’ as reason behind his death. His mother, Neena Shrestha has lodged a case of death due to negligence against the school authorities. “The prime minister was sympathetic and said he would talk to concerned agencies,” said Ujjwal Thapa, member of Old Sherwoodian Society in Nepal, who accompanied Shrestha and other family members to the meeting. Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat, Law Minister Narahari Acharya, Senior leader of Nepali Congress Krishna Sitaula were present to hear Shrestha’s plea seeking justice for Shaan.
The alumni associations of the school in Nepal and India has pledged support to Shrestha and demanded action against all those responsible. They have demanded immediate suspension of the school principal Amandeep Sandhu.
On Tuesday, they handed over a petition to the Indian Embassy demanding transparent and fair probe in the matter. The school principal has denied allegations. “The boy also had asthma. After he fell ill on November 11, he was treated at school. Later, we took him to a private hospital in Haldwani. The next day we decided to bring him to Noida,” Sandhu told the Indian daily Indian Express.
