Prime Minister Karki set to expand Cabinet for third time

Prime Minister Sushila Karki is set to expand her Cabinet for the third time on Sunday, adding four new ministers to the interim government following days of rigorous discussions.
According to sources at Baluwatar, Dr Sudha Sharma Gautam will be given the Ministry of Health and Population, Ganpatilal Shrestha will head the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Khagendra Sunar will take charge of the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, and Bablu Gupta will be appointed Minister for Youth and Sports.
Among the new appointees, Gautam is a former health secretary, Shrestha is a cultural activist, Sunar is a Dalit rights activist, and Gupta is the founder of the Hundred Group.
Although the Gen Z leaders had recommended seven names for ministerial positions on Saturday, only Gupta was selected from their list.
According to the President’s Office at Sheetal Niwas, the swearing-in ceremony for the new ministers will be held at 2:30pm on Sunday.
On September 23, former Supreme Court Justice Anil Kumar Sinha, Ramon Magsaysay Award winner Mahabir Pun, climate and agriculture expert Madan Prasad Pariyar, and journalist Jagadish Kharel were appointed as ministers.
Following the Gen Z movement that forced then–Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to resign, former Chief Justice Sushila Karki became prime minister on September 12. Earlier, on September 15, Karki had appointed Rameshore Khanal as finance minister, Om Prakash Aryal as home minister, and Kulman Ghising as minister for energy and physical infrastructure.
