The CPN (United Socialist) has decided to hold dialogues with all political parties regarding the presidential candidate and possible alliances.
A meeting of the Central Secretariat held at the party central office in Aloknagar decided to keep the door of dialogue open with all the political parties in the Parliament regarding the presidential candidate.
Jagannath Khatiwada, head of the party’s publicity department, said that the party's emphasis is on electing the president unanimously through national consensus as much as possible.
“We have said that we should elect the president unanimously as far as possible. If there is no national consensus, we are ready to hold discussions with all parties for a possible equation," said Khatiwada. “But our party will not unite with any other party for the presidential election."
Khatiwada further said that the party is not in favour of electing a president from outside a political party.
In the meeting, Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal briefed the central secretariat members about the latest political developments.
Khatiwada said that the meeting also decided to stand against the regressive steps that are being taken against the constitution.
“It seems that there are many activities going on against the constitution. Whether it is to create a Hindu state or to destroy the provisions in the constitution,” said Khatiwada, “The meeting has decided that we will hold dialogues with the progressive and democratic forces and stand united against all those regressive steps."
Khatiwada said that no one has proposed the party to field a candidate for the post of President adding that if someone makes such a proposal, the party will keep the door of dialogue open with everyone for a possible equation.
