Vehicular movement along the Chitlang-Thankot road, a short route connecting Hetauda and Kathmandu, will be suspended from Sunday.
Traffic along the Chitlang-Thankot route, officially known as the Ganesh Man Singh Marga, will be closed for 14 days from May 31 to June 13 to facilitate road upgrade works.
According to the Road Division Office, Kathmandu, the closure is necessary to allow the construction company to undertake road concreting, blacktopping, and the construction of retaining walls.
Purushottam Bhandari, an engineer at the division, stated that allowing vehicles to pass through the construction site would disrupt work and increase the risk of accidents due to the difficult terrain of the road section. "Upgrade works, including blacktopping and concreting, will be carried out across a stretch of approximately 7.5 kilometres," Bhandari said.
The project involves constructing retaining walls at three to four locations and laying concrete along a 1,200-metre stretch. Of the total sections undergoing retaining wall construction, blacktopping, and concreting, around 1,900 metres fall within Makwanpur district, while the remaining portion lies on the Kathmandu side. The road section from Panighatta in Kathmandu to Chitlang Bazaar in Makawanpur will remain completely closed during the upgrade.
The Kathmandu office of the division has requested Thaha Municipality and Chandragiri Municipality to coordinate and facilitate the use of alternative routes for commuter convenience during this period.
Meanwhile, traffic has also been halted along the Hetauda-Kulekhani-Phakhel-Pharping road since Saturday. This closure, scheduled for a month, is required to facilitate concrete casting on the under-construction bridge and its approach road at Mahalakshmi Khola along the Kulekhani-Phakhel road section.
Commuters travelling between Hetauda and Kathmandu via short routes can still use the Kulekhani-Sisneri-Dakshinkali road, which remains open to traffic as an alternative.
