Voting ends nationwide with sporadic disputes in a few districts

Voting in the House of Representatives election concluded peacefully and enthusiastically across Nepal on Thursday, with only a few incidents reported, the Election Commission said.
Polling began at 7 am and officially ended at 5 pm as scheduled. Election Commissioner Janaki Kumari Tuladhar said voters who had already queued at polling centres by 5 pm were still allowed to cast their ballots.
The commission said no polling centre had been formally declared suspended so far.
Brief disputes were reported in Dolakha, Sarlahi and Rautahat. Voting resumed after a short halt at the Malu polling centre in ward 4 of Tamakoshi Rural Municipality in Dolakha and continued normally.
The commission said it would release detailed voting information during a press briefing scheduled for 6:15 pm.
A total of 18,903,689 voters were eligible to elect 275 members of the House of Representatives. The figure is up by 915,119 from the 2022 elections. Of them, 52 percent are aged between 18 and 40.
There are 6,541 candidates in the fray. Under the first-past-the-post system, 3,406 candidates are contesting 165 seats, including 1,143 independents. For the 110 proportional representation seats, 3,135 candidates are listed under 63 parties.
The commission had set up 23,112 polling centres at 10,963 polling stations nationwide. A total of 341,113 security personnel, including 149,000 temporary election police, were deployed.
The commission said it aims to publish first-past-the-post results within 24 hours after counting begins.
