Torrential rain triggered flooding in Jajarkot district, completely blocking a section of the Bheri Corridor linking Jajarkot with Dolpa and sweeping away temporary homes, shops and other structures, police said.
The flood hit Baulaha Khola river between wards 1 and 2 of Nalgad Municipality after heavy rain late Sunday night. It washed away temporary homes and businesses at Bairitaal in ward 1, disrupting passenger and cargo traffic on the Jajarkot-Dolpa road.
No deaths or injuries were reported, police said.
Several temporary structures, including grocery shops and other businesses, were destroyed. A poultry feed shed and a fresh-meat shop were also swept away, along with about 100 broiler chickens.
Mud and floodwater damaged another grocery shop, while an auto-rickshaw and a tractor were partially buried and damaged. A water mill in Nalgad-2 was also washed away.
Police were assessing the full extent of the damage, Police Inspector Suman Gaire said.
A 10-member police team led by Inspector Kiran Sapkota was deployed to the area after the flooding to assist with rescue and relief efforts.
