Attorney general Badal resigns after KP Oli’s departure
Ramesh Badal says his resignation, tendered on September 9, was accepted only on Sunday in line with tradition.
Post Report
Attorney General Ramesh Badal has stepped down from his post, confirming that he resigned immediately after then prime minister KP Sharma Oli announced his own departure.
Badal said he had submitted his resignation with effect from September 9, but the President’s Office formally communicated its acceptance to the Office of the Attorney General only on Sunday.
“As the attorney general is appointed by the prime minister, it has been a tradition to resign along with the prime minister’s exit,” Badal explained, noting that his resignation was consistent with that practice.
Badal, who was appointed by Oli, held the post during a turbulent period in Nepal’s politics that saw widespread protests and the eventual formation of an interim government under Sushila Karki.
