A 50-year-old man was found dead in the Chandra canal in ward 8 of Kanchanrup Municipality, Saptari, on Saturday afternoon, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Govinda Chaudhary of ward 7 in the same municipality.

He had reportedly left home in the morning after having tea and was later discovered submerged in the canal near Chandani Chowk.

Locals who noticed the body informed police. Police deployed from the Kanchanrup Area Police Office recovered the body and sent it to Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital in Rajbiraj for post-mortem.

Inspector Lekh Bahadur Bista of the area police office said the cause of death is not yet clear. “It has come to our notice that he had some mental health issues, but further investigation is ongoing,” he said.
