Rabi Lamichhane moves Supreme Court against high court ruling
The former home minister challenges the court’s decision to overturn bail and order his remand in a cooperative fraud case.
Post Report
Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman and former home minister Rabi Lamichhane has filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court, challenging a high court ruling that remanded him in custody.
Lamichhane’s wife, Nikita Paudel; RSP joint spokesperson Pratibha Rawal; and lawyer Narayan Kandel submitted the petition on Friday.
Supreme Court Information Officer Nirajan Pandey said the petition had been registered, and the hearing is set for Sunday.
On April 4, the Butwal bench of the Tulsipur High Court overturned a decision by the Rupandehi District Court, which had granted Lamichhane bail, instead ordering his remand in custody. Lamichhane was arrested in Kathmandu and is currently being held in Rupandehi prison.
He faces accusations of misusing tens of millions of rupees from the Butwal-based Supreme Cooperative as managing director of the Gorkha Media Network before he entered politics in 2022.
